Caring for Your Kilim

Caring for Your Kilim

Each Anadoloom kilim is handwoven from hand-spun wool and naturally dyed with roots, leaves, and earth. With simple care, it will age beautifully for generations.

To clean:

Vacuum regularly on gentle suction, or shake and air your kilim outdoors to release dust. For small marks, wipe softly with a cloth and mild detergent - a few drops of dish soap in water are enough. Avoid pure soap, bleach, or chemical cleaners.

Washing:

Frequent washing isn’t needed, and the use of a washing machine is not recommended. If washed, do not soak or spin. Rinse briefly and dry flat - never hang.

Light & air:

Natural dyes are sunfast; you can freely let your kilim breathe in sunlight or even gentle rain - it strengthens the wool.

Storage:

Keep dry and well-ventilated. Avoid damp corners or sealed plastic. Before long-term storage, simply air the piece for a day or two.

Note:

Any fold creases from shipping will gently ease out over time as the kilim relaxes and settles into its natural form.

Each subtle tone variation (abrash) and small irregularity is a signature of its handmade origin - the rhythm of a weaver’s hand, not a flaw.
